A Success Story


Heir to a past steeped in history, characterised by human determination and industrial progress, Arc International made 1968 a key year in its future.

Having decided to develop new manufacturing methods, the Verrerie Cristallerie d’Arques glassmaking operation had already fitted out its workshops with modern machinery, which the research departments were continually improving. Meanwhile, the world outside was celebrating groundbreaking events, such as the first ever television broadcast from space (from the three Apollo 7 astronauts) and the unprecedented demonstration of the computer mouse (by American engineer Doug Engelbart).

Arc International was proud to add to these its own successes and quest for perfection: the Group’s technological innovation had enabled the company to produce lead crystal stemware using, for the first time anywhere in the world, an automated production process…

This technical feat went hand in hand with the creation of a new brand – Cristal d’Arques Paris – and sent shockwaves racing through the tableware sector.
Anyone could now afford to own lead crystalware; it had ceased to belong exclusively to a privileged élite.
Nevertheless, given that lead crystal remains a luxury item, refined and rare, Cristal d’Arques Paris  products evoke both a history of expertise and a brand that has become legendary by dint of its renown and popularity.

The first collection was very aptly named Versailles.
As moderation and excessiveness, but also harmony of proportion, are characteristics that describe the style of the ‘Cité Royale’, Cristal d’Arques Paris chose to create its glassware service with attention to classical lines and timeless forms.
